Awards

The CMB Natatanging Guro (NG) Award may be given to an outstanding teacher in the Philippine Science High School System from each of the following three clusters: Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science, and Humanities and Social Sciences.

Benefits for the Awardees

Each awardee shall receive:

  • A cash award of ₱75,000.00
  • The CMB NG trophy

Awarding Ceremony

The 6th CMB NG Awards will be launched on January 18, 2024, the birthday of Dr. Cleofe M. Bacuñgan. It will be a hybrid event, presented live during the ExeCom Meeting and streamed across the 16 PSHS Campuses.

The awarding ceremony will be held live and streamed to all campuses. The 6th CMB NG Awarding Ceremony will be on November 20, 2024.

Qualifications for Nominees

A Nominee:

  1. Must currently be a full-time and permanent faculty member of the PSHS System for at least three (3) years.
  2. Must have been in active service in the PSHS System for the preceding three (3) academic years (from AY 2021-2022; AY 2022-2023; and AY 2023-2024).
  3. Must have taught at least two (2) sections or two (2) subjects for the past academic year.
  4. Must not have been found guilty of any administrative or disciplinary charge, must not have any pending administrative or disciplinary charge and must not have any pending criminal case.
  5. Must be of good moral standing (as certified by the Campus Director, Chaplain or respective Parish Priest or respective Barangay Chairman)

Requirements for Nomination

  1. Any qualified faculty member may be nominated by a faculty member, student, alumnus, or staff member of the PSHS System, using the NG Nomination Form, downloaded from the PSHS Foundation Website. Endorsements aside from the letter of the nominator will not be entertained.
  2. Any qualified faculty member may nominate himself/herself, provided that the said nomination has been duly endorsed by his/her respective Unit Head or Campus Director or an authority or officer from the PSHS System OED.
  3. A nomination will consist of:
    1. A nomination letter signed by the nominator and addressed to the NG Selection Panel through its Chair;
    2. The properly accomplished Nomination Form, including supporting documents/credentials;
    3. The curriculum vitae of the nominee not exceeding four (4) pages.

Criteria for Selection

Teaching effectiveness (60%)

  • (10%) Rating as a faculty member, Category B or better (previous 3 years)
  • (10%) Student evaluation, good or better (previous 3 years)
  • (20%) Teaching innovations or materials developed (previous 3 years)
  • (10%) Materials developed for remote or on-line or transition or hybrid learning
  • (10%) Attendance record (previous 3 years)

Teaching effectiveness considers remote learning (from AY 2021-2022) and the transition to in-school learning and the new hybrid learning that ensued (AY 2022-2023 and AY 2023-2024). Due recognition will be given to the efforts and success of the teacher in optimizing learning in such a transitional environment aligned with the learning objectives and required student competencies defined by the PSHS.

Research and/or creative work (20%)

  • (10%) Publications and/or creative work in the area of expertise (previous 3 years)
  • (5%) Paper presentations in conferences in the area of expertise (previous 3 years)
  • (5%) Related creative work or projects undertaken (previous 3 years)

Academic background and professional development (10%)

  • (6%) Graduate degree or credit units in the area of expertise or related field
  • (2%) Courses or seminars attended in the area of expertise or related field (previous 3 years)
  • (2%) Scholarships, fellowships, and other awards or Honors received

Administrative and extension work (10%)

  • (2%) Administrative positions held in the PSHS (previous 3 years)
  • (4%) Committee or volunteer work; Resource Person or Speaker in Seminars, Workshops or Lectures (previous 3 years)
  • (4%) Service to the school, government or community (previous 3 years)

Period for Accomplishments to be Considered for Evaluation

Previous three (3) academic years, from AY 2021-2022; AY 2022-2023; and AY 2023-2024 except for some items in Criteria 2.

1 Launch : The CMB NG Awards FUND BOARD and the PSHS Foundation, Inc. launches the search for the 6th CMB NG Awards across all PSHS campuses. January 18, 2024 2PM
2 Nomination Period : The NG Secretariat duly receives and records the nominations. May 3 to September 3, 2024
3 Deadline for Submission : Credentials will be submitted online September 3, 2024 5 PM
4 Evaluation of Credentials : The NG Selection Panel may conduct an online or face-to-face interview of the nominees, if necessary. September 4 to October 20, 2024
5 Deliberation and Selection : The NG Selection Panel selects the CMB Natatanging Guro awardees for each of the 3 clusters. October 25, 2024
